Entryway Trends 2027: A Warm First Impression

The entryway is the first room guests see and the last one you see before leaving. It is also the one most often ignored: a hook, a pile of shoes, a bright ceiling light. In 2027 designers are treating the entry as a real room, small but deliberate, that sets the tone for the whole home.

What are the entryway trends for 2027?

Six directions: warm lamp light, an earthy color, a console with one natural piece, a mirror, hidden storage, and a rug that can take the traffic. Together they turn a passage into a welcome.

Even a narrow apartment entry has room for the three that matter: a light, a mirror and one piece with some height. Everything else in the list is storage.

How should an entryway be lit in 2027?

With a warm lamp, not only a ceiling light. A lamp on a console or a floor lamp in the corner makes the entry glow when you come home at night. Keep the ceiling light for cleaning and searching for keys.

The ceiling light still has a job: finding a lost key, cleaning, leaving in a hurry. Keep it, and give the lamp its own switch so the two are never on together.

If there is no outlet near the console, a rechargeable cordless lamp does the job. In a larger entry or a hall with a corner, our Woven Bamboo Floor Lamp draws its weave across the walls, a warm first thing to see. Use 2700K bulbs, and put the lamp on a smart plug or timer so it is already on when you arrive.

What colors are trending for entryways and hallways?

Deeper, warmer colors than the rest of the house: clay, terracotta, olive, smoky blue. A small space painted a rich color feels like a jewel box, and makes the lighter rooms beyond feel brighter.

A dark hall painted white does not look brighter, it looks gray. A deeper, warmer color, taken up over the ceiling in a small hall, reads as deliberate and makes the lighter rooms beyond feel brighter by contrast.

What should go on an entryway console?

Very little: a lamp, a tray for keys, and one natural piece such as a vase with branches or a handmade bowl. The styled console with ten small objects is out; one or two chosen pieces are in.

The console itself should be shallow, 12 to 14 inches deep, or it will collect everything that comes through the door. Depth is what turns a console into a dumping ground.

A console arrangement that always works: lamp on one side, vase or tall object on the other, a low tray in the middle, a mirror centered above. Our Woven Bamboo Vase with dried branches gives height without taking space, and needs no care for months.

Are mirrors still in style for entryways?

Yes, and they are getting more sculptural: arched, rounded, or framed in wood and natural fiber. A mirror doubles the light in a dark hall and gives you a last look before leaving.

Hang it with its center about 60 inches from the floor, or 6 to 10 inches above the console, and choose one about two-thirds the width of the console. A mirror also doubles whatever light you have, which matters more in a hall than anywhere else.

How do you hide clutter in an entryway?

With closed storage: a bench with drawers, baskets, a cabinet, or hooks behind a door. The 2027 entryway looks calm because the shoes, bags and mail have a place out of sight.

List what actually lives there, shoes, coats, bags, the dog leash, the mail, and give each one a closed place. Baskets under a bench handle shoes and add texture at the same time.

A few last questions

What is the best lighting for an entryway? A warm lamp on a console or in a corner, plus the ceiling light for practical use.

What color should I paint a small hallway? A deeper, warmer color, such as clay, olive or smoky blue, often looks better than white in a dark hall.

How high should an entryway mirror hang? Its center about 60 inches from the floor, or 6 to 10 inches above the console.

What do you put on an entryway table? A lamp, a tray for keys and one natural piece. Less is better.

How do I make my entryway feel welcoming? Warm light that is already on when you arrive, and no visible clutter.
