Care guide
Bamboo woven by hand is sturdy and light, and it asks for very little. A few habits keep it looking the way it did the day it arrived.
Dusting
- Once every week or two, go over the weave with a dry, soft brush, a feather duster, or a vacuum on its lowest setting with a brush head.
- Work with the direction of the strips, not across them, so nothing catches.
- For the pendant, switch it off and let the bulb cool first.
Keep water off the bamboo
- Never wash, soak or spray the weave. Water swells the fibres and can mark them.
- If something spills on it, blot it straight away with a dry cloth and let it air dry away from heat.
- The vase is the exception that proves the rule: water only ever goes in its glass liner, which lifts out to rinse.
Where it lives
- Indoors only. These pieces are made for inside the home.
- Out of long, direct sun. Strong sun day after day slowly lightens natural bamboo, as it does wood.
- Away from steam and damp. A bathroom or right above a stove is not the place for them.
- Away from heat sources. Keep them clear of radiators, fireplaces and space heaters.
Bulbs
- Both lamps take a standard E26 bulb. Bulbs aren't included.
- Use an LED: it gives the same light as an old bulb while staying cool, which is better for the bamboo and for your electricity bill.
- For the pendant, stay at or below 60 W.
- Choose 2700K warm white. Warmer turns the bamboo orange; cooler loses the honey glow.
- A clear bulb draws a sharper pattern on the walls; a frosted one gives a softer glow.
- Always switch off and let the bulb cool before changing it.
Natural character
Every shade is woven by hand, so no two are exactly alike, and bamboo mellows gently over the years. Small variations in the weave and the tone are the mark of the work. Anything that affects how a piece stands, hangs or holds is a fault, and we'll put it right: tell us.

Decorating advice, one room at a time
We are an interior decor house before we are a shop. Once a month we write to you about one room: how to light it, what to put where, and which of the season's decor directions are worth bringing home.
- One room per letter. The living room, the bedroom, the dining table, the reading corner.
- The season's decor directions, sorted for real homes rather than showrooms.
- Lighting advice you can use the same evening, with or without our pieces.
- First word when a new piece joins the collection.
